Soulseek in China with VPN

Dear all,
Turns out, I cant live without Soulseek. I am China now though and it seems like I might have to. So as the Big Boss of this country controls what goes in and out of the web, the only way to use internet properly without censure, is with VPN. So I have a VPN, by Astrill. It seems like Soulseek and VPN arent working really well together.
My Soulseek gives this Error:
Login failed. Reported failure reason: socket error. Please change your login settings in the Options tab and try reconnecting.

When I go to OPTIONS window, I dont really know which TAB to go to. But first of all I clicked on CHECK PORTS. Than it directs to Soulseek website, saying this:

P: 198.105.217.4 Port: 55649/tcp CLOSED. Your router and/or Soulseek client needs to be configured correctly.
You may want to check this list of port forwarding guides for instructions specific to your router model.
Don't forget that you need to restart your client if you modify your listening port.

I have MAC OSx10.9.4. Also, I just upgraded my Macbook to this latest version, Mavericks, so maybe that's the problem

PLEASE help me :) In exchange I'll upload some absolute awesome Chinese music! ;)

A little web search for Astrill port forward reveals that you have to use their app to get ports opened. They only let you have a few, and they decide what the port numbers are. See http://blog.astrill.com/index.php/2011/01/15/port-forward-feature-utorre... ... basically you have to take one of the port numbers they give you and enter that as your listening port in SoulseekQt. You won't be able to forward Soulseek's obfuscated port, but I think it will work without it.(?) Good luck.

Well I'm using Windows 7 without any VPN (I've gotten over the loss of google) and I get the exact same error message. So it has to be China's doing, not your VPN or MAC OS. Did you ever find a solution? It seems soulssek is the one thing I can't live without!!!
