meaning of "access" re:shared folder/s

How do I restrict certain people from browsing my folders while still providing full access for them and all downloaders to the contents via search?

Does "access to shared folders" mean access by browsing? Or does it mean access to the files for download by others? This is really ambiguous. I want everyone to be able to download from me, but not necessarily to see the whole list of what I've got.

"Accessible to" in the folder sharing config means those people can search and browse and download from those folders.

If your files can be seen in a search, they can be browsed as well.

If both of you are using SoulseekQt, then the user who is searching or browsing has the option of also seeing the shares that they're not allowed to download—that is, they can search and browse shares that are userlist-only, even though they are not on the list, as long as 1. you have checked the "Folder is visible to everyone" toggle (which appears when you uncheck the "Folder is accessible to everyone" box), and 2. the searching/browsing user has toggled the appropriate setting(s) in their client:

  • Show privately shared search results
  • Show privately shared files when browsing user shares

I'm not entirely clear on whether the toggles allow people to see the folders that are shared only with custom user groups, or just the folders shared with the whole User List... anyone know? I'm OK with people searching & browsing most of my userlist-only folders, but one of these folders has files I only want a select group of users to ever see. I have a custom group set up for it, but if that's not enough, I'll need to rethink my strategy. I think this is similar to what you're asking about.

Hey Microwave,

Those two toggles affect your own ability to see other users' privately shared files. They're there for users who aren't interested in them basically. When your own shared folder is marked visible, it will be visible to anyone, regardless of who's able to download from it.
